When Do You End A Podcast?

I’ve talked a lot about launching podcasts in this newsletter, but today I want to talk about knowing when to end a podcast. As usual, the real answer is it depends.

I’m currently in the process of wrapping up Chat Sematary and the main reason is that I haven’t been able to give it 100% since I caught up on Stephen King’s material and it was no longer a weekly podcast. It oddly has become harder to secure guests for episodes, too. So I’m working on a couple more Patreon episodes and possibly one more episode on the main podcast feed to wrap things up in December.

Honestly, I tend to wrap up shows later than I probably should. Welcome to Geekdom ran for 300 episodes, but I was struggling to create a show I actually enjoyed for a while before that.

My best advice is that if you aren’t able to give your podcast your best, try taking a break first and see if it’s just a case of burnout. Then, if you come back and still can’t get out a show that you’re happy with, wrap it up.

It’s been tough for me to quit things that were once my passion projects. But hey, I’ve quit 4 podcasts now and created 1 that was specifically a mini-series.

There’s no rule that says once you start a podcast, you can never quit it. One thing I've worked on (not always successfully) this year is saying no more often. And sometimes that means saying no to your own projects.

Don’t get discouraged though if one podcast doesn’t work out. The thing is, you can always make a new podcast and take a different approach to things.

I’d love to know what you all would like to see more of. If you could check out this poll and let me know, that would be great!
