How to distribute your podcast
Distributing your podcast is something that possibly sounds a lot more intimidating than it actually is. The first thing you’ll need to do is sign up for a podcast hosting platform like Transistor.fm, Libsyn, Acast, or whatever platform fits your budget. Podcast Insights has a comprehensive list here.
Once you decide on one, you’ll sign up, and start setting up you show. You’ll need to have your show’s name, artwork, and description ready to go. This is also where you’ll set the categories for you podcast (i.e. News, Music, TV/Film, etc.). Depending on the platform you use, some may offer a dedicated website for your show that has more customization options like different layouts and color themes.
From there, some will also offer convenient, one-click submissions to certain podcast apps. You will however still want to make separate accounts for Apple and Spotify at least as those have their own comprehensive and useful dashboards with stats.
You do need to have at least one episode (preferably your trailer) posted publicly already in order to obtain your RSS feed.
For Apple, you’ll need an Apple ID and then you can login to Podcasts Connect and submit your RSS feed there. For Spotify, you’ll sign up with Spotify for Podcasters.
One you do that one time, you won’t need to do it for every episode. You’ll just post your episode on Transistor.fm, Acast, etc. and then it’ll populate to all of the apps you’ve submitted to automatically.
Next week will conclude this “how to launch your podcast” series. If you have any questions or additional topics you’d like me to cover, feel free to reply to this email, or reach out here.
